Becoming a Member
Mindful Families of Durham is a cooperative community. All of its members participate in leading the opening ceremony, working with the children, and taking on other responsibilities. Each member is expected to donate a pledged amount in order to contribute to the group's expenses.
For more information on membership, please contact MFD Board President Adam Schultz through this contact form.
Interested families are welcome to visit up to 4 times to see if the group is right for them. Following this, families can become MFD members by:
- Enrolling their children in the Sati School
- Pledging an annual membership donation (prorated based on month joining in year). This financial support primarily covers the cost of the Sati School teachers and rent. (More below)
Each member family is expected to, at minimum, run a meeting (includes general setup, organization and teaching of a children’s class) at least 4 times per year. Lessons, materials, and guidelines for hosting and teaching are provided.
Members are also needed to serve in other volunteer capacities and on the MFD board.
Membership confers the right to vote in annual board elections each January.
The BFD is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit. All donations are tax-deductible.
Families are asked to make an annual membership donation of between $480 and $600 a year, which primarily helps pay for the teachers and rent. However, any family is welcome to participate in the community, regardless of what they can donate.
Annual Tax-Deductible Family Membership Donation
$600/year ($50/month). This donation level covers what we pay our teachers, supports those families in need of scholarship and provides funding for rent, classroom supplies, and operational costs.
$480/year ($40/month). This donation level funds the majority of BFD’s operating costs, primarily going toward teacher pay and rent.
